The following is a list of our anticipated events and programs for the ‘09/10 school year. All are run by FOW. Please attend as many as possible, and let us know if you’d like to help out. (An F indicates this event is a fundraiser.)

START THE YEAR OUT RIGHT
FOW SEASON PASS (F)…………………….……September 2009
Take advantage of the special “FOW Season Pass.” The pass entitles your child to free entry (and food/drink when applicable) to Winthrop events including Halloween Happenings, Holiday Boutique, Toy Bingo and Hot Dogs to Go. Each pass holder will also receive a Winthrop School Aluminum Water Bottle. The FOW Season Pass will be available for sale through September. Suggested donation is $60- per student, or $100 per family.

Come see old classmates and meet new friends and families at our Annual Ice Cream Social. Ice cream is provided by the Friends, and scooped by teachers.

The Friends of Winthrop hosts a new parent coffee on Friday morning from 8:30am – 9:00am before the first FOW meeting. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The most popular fast food in Hamilton! This is a quick and easy meal for your family is ordered ahead of time and picked up on the designated evening. Order forms sent home prior to each event.

A not-to-miss fun social event for the whole family. Tickets cover activities, pizza and drink. Volunteers will decorate the school, run a variety of activities and serve refreshments.

Skaters from all three H/W elementary schools will meet at the Roller Palace in Beverly for an afternoon skate. Bring your wheels and join all your friends for a fun afternoon.
HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE (F)….………Saturday, December 5, 2009
The Holiday Boutique is Winthrop’s largest fundraiser of the year. It features over 50 vendors, a children’s shopping room, the Cookie Walk and a Silent Auction. Raffles, photos with Santa, holiday greens and a delicious lunch available in the Café make for a great day. Volunteers are needed to make crafts, bake cookies, organize auction items, and help out on Boutique day.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR (F)……..……..early December 2009
Scholastic Book Fair will run in conjunction with Holiday Boutique, as well as in school shopping hours. It offers rewards for book sales in books or cash. Proceeds go to purchasing new pre-labeled, catalogued books for the school library. Contact: Christine Cutter, clcutter@verizon.net

Date subject to change. Join all three H/W elementary schools for an afternoon of fun at CoCo Key Water Park. Slide, swim and get soaked with all your friends.

Toy Bingo is a great night of family fun. Pizza is served followed by Bingo for everyone, with toy prizes for the winners. An adult must accompany all children.

BANBURY CROSS BOOK FAIR (F)………………………April, 2010
Kicking off during the school-wide Art Show, this book fair provides an opportunity for parents/students to purchase books. With proceeds Banbury Cross donates, FOW purchases library books.

A tradition at Winthrop school, students collect pledges for laps completed during the Walk-A-Thon. Volunteers are needed to record laps, serve water or pass out popsicles.

In honor of Winthrop’s outstanding staff members, FOW sponsors a yearly staff luncheon to say thank you. Information will be sent home in the spring with specifics on how you can help.

PROGRAMS TAKING PLACE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
CULTURAL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
The Cultural Enrichment Committee brings programs from outside the school to our students, enhancing the curriculum being studied in all grades. These programs may include authors, musicians, the sciences and theatrical productions. Programs will be announced in the weekly Parent Bulletin. Thanks to dedicated parents and persistent fundraising efforts, FOW is able to bring these enrichment programs to Winthrop students.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION (F)
Clip your BoxTops from various grocery items throughout the year – cereal, tissues, tacos and more. General Mills returns cash to FOW, which is put toward school improvement. School-wide BoxTop contests offer students a chance to win an extra recess.

CROSBY MARKET RECEIPTS (F)
Help support Winthrop by saving your receipts from Crosby’s Sept. 1, 2009 – March 31, 2010. A box will be placed outside the school office and you can drop them off throughout that time. The receipts will be redeemed for a point value and used to purchase supplies, games and equipment for the school. Details to follow.

MEMORY BOOK
The Winthrop School Memory Book allows students to live a fun year of school through pictures. All classes are featured. Orders are placed in the spring.

This is one of the easiest ways to support Winthrop. Purchase gift cards through this program to over 100 retail stores; Winthrop gets a percentage of the purchase. BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB
Help support the Winthrop School Library. When it is your child’s birthday, please consider donating a book to honor his/her special day. A commemorative sticker will be placed in the book for all to see. Need an idea for a book? Amy Pasquarello always has some great suggestions of books the library needs.
