Congratulations Winthrop Students

We are so proud of the Winthrop Students and want to thank the teachers and staff for their hard work last year.

The 2009 MCAS results are in and the 5th Graders did very well.  Winthrop School 5th Grade scored 8th out of 896 schools in the Boston area in English, and 21st out of 897 schools in Science.  Pretty impressive – and certainly shows how hard the kids work.

We should all be very proud.  Keep it up Winthrop Kids!

ACTIVE FOR ACORD ‘ITEM OF THE WEEK’

The Winthrop School’s Kids Care Club is focused on helping the community and learning to give back.  The Kids Care Club is starting its second year of collecting items for the Acord Food Pantry in Hamilton.
This year, we will have a bi-weekly “Item of the Week”.
While you are shopping, if you are able, pick up one or two and send them in–there is a collection box on the stage in the Winthrop School.  You can help our children realize that they can make a difference in our community.  Thank you!

  • 10/5     Cereal (any low sugar)
  • 10/19   Granola Bars
  • 11/3     Healthy “ish” cookies  (Oatmeal, Fig Newtons, Graham)
  • 11/17   Fruit Snacks
  • 12/1     Cocoa
  • 12/15   Coffee/Tea

Please email any questions to Christine Cutter at clcutter[at]verizon.net.

BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB

If you have a child celebrating a birthday or any other special occasion this month, please consider the Birthday Book Club!

Simply send in a check for $10 per book made out to The Friends of Winthrop, marked ‘BBC’ in the memo field, and your child will get to pick from Mrs. Pasquarello’s on-site selection of new books to add to the Winthrop Library collection during their next scheduled Library time.

A special bookplate will be put in the front of the book, and your child’s name will be prominently  featured.  The kids love to be honored and are really proud to be part of such a wonderful program, and the Library and all the students benefit from an expanded collection.

Gift certificates are available in the Library.

If you have any questions, email Christine Cutter at clcutter[at]verizon.net.

Thank you for your support!
